Raspberry Mojito Recipe 🍸

Hiya cocktail lovers! Are you ready to create a classic mojito with a fun fruity twist? Grab your glasses, pick your mint and let’s go. The raspberry mojito recipe awaits you at the end of this blog.

History of the Mojito

Although, like most things, history is gruesome, there’s nothing gruesome about the refreshing taste of the mojito! First called El Draque, the cocktail was named after Francis Drake, during his time in Havana, Cuba around the 1500’s. It was rumored that Drake’s ship carried the mint which was mixed with sugar cane spirit, lime and sugar, to create a remedy that allegedly relieved colds. However, some say Drake’s visit to Havana was so worthy, it deserved a drink named after it- they used aguardiente (what developed into rum) with sugar, lime and mint to create El Draque.

Method

You will need: 50 ml White rum 10-12 Mint leaves 50 ml Soda 25 ml Lime juice 25 Raspberry syrup Ice Sugar for rim garnish and texture if desired

  1. If creating a sugar rim, slice a lime wedge and then cut it horizontally so you can run the lime wedge around the glass, so that it is sticky and about 2ml width
  2. Pour some sugar over the rim of the glass to create a perfect sugar rim. Evenly coat the rim for the most professional look!
  3. If you don’t have crushed ice: Place your ice cubes in a zip-lock bag and seal. Use a rolling pin to gently bash the ice to create crushed ice.
  4. Pour the crushed ice into highball glass, and measure 50ml rum. Pour this into the glass too.
  5. Next pour the raspberry syrup, and lime into the glass.
  6. Next, pick your mint leaves and put your mint leaves into the glass. Use a tall spoon or cocktail spoon (if you have one) and churn the cocktail to break up the mint leaves. Churn in a clockwise motion starting down and coming up, ensuring your hand covers the top of the glass, so that the drink doesn’t spill out.
  7. Finally top with soda, straw and sprinkle of sugar for texture. Add a mint sprig next to the straw for added flare.
  8. Sit back and enjoy!
Raspberry Mojito Recipe Variations:

Why be raspberry when you can be passionfruit? Why be passionfruit when you could be strawberry! This recipe will work with any fruit, whether this be added flavour in the syrup or with the actual fruit. If using actual fruit, be careful to cut or squash the fruit fully to ensure the flavour comes through. You may also want to buy some gomme (sugar syrup) here: this can sweeten any cocktail or drink you make when experimenting with flavours! But why stop at fruits, like the raspberry mojito recipe we made today? A mojito can be enjoyed with gin instead of rum, and can be churned with cucumber, if that’s more you!
